MB BASEBALL BATTLES, LOSES ON WALK OFF
A walk-off left Myrtle Beach Varsity Seahawks on the wrong end of a 5-4 defeat to St. James on Wednesday. The game was tied at four in the bottom of the seventh when Sackett was struck by a pitch, driving in a run.
St. James opened the scoring in the first after Kessler singled, scoring two runs.
Myrtle Beach Varsity Seahawks jumped into the lead in the top of the seventh when Trembley grounded out, scoring one run, Bolick doubled, scoring one run, and Moran doubled, scoring two runs.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, St. James went back into the lead after Kessler singled up the middle, and Sackett was struck by a pitch, each scoring one run.
Kessler earned the win for St. James. The hurler allowed two hits and one run over one-third of an inning, striking out none and walking none. Bolick started the game for Myrtle Beach Varsity Seahawks. The starter allowed five hits and three runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out one and walking two. Victoria stepped on the hill first for St. James. The starter gave up three hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out 11 and walking four.
Moran provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Myrtle Beach Varsity Seahawks with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Myrtle Beach Varsity Seahawks turned one double play in the game. Myrtle Beach Varsity Seahawks were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Delfin had the most chances in the field with six.
Series finale is Friday at home.
